Partners/Donors/ of Ethiopian Catholic Church The Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat (ECS) is a non-profit making organization established under the Ethiopian Catholic Church with the mandate to initiate, facilitate, promote and coordinate the Social and pastoral activities of the Catholic Church through out the country. Caritas Belgium works in areas such as emergency, development and striving to ascertain a world enjoying justice and solidarity. Their priority activities are as follows:
Caritas Belgium funds ECS Coordination and Food Security unit. Caritas Internationalis (Caritas Network)Caritas Internationalis is a confederation of 162 Catholic relief, development and social service organisations working to build a better world, especially for the poor and oppressed, in over 200 countries and territories. Caritas works without regard to creed, race, gender, or ethnicity, and is one of the world’s largest humanitarian networks. Caritas provides a beacon of hope for tens of millions of women, men and children in times of hardship and contributes to the development of social justice in times of peace. Caritas’ mandate includes integral development, emergency relief, advocacy, peace building, respect for human rights and support for proper stewardship of the planet’s environment and resources. The Caritas approach is based on the social teaching of the Church, which focuses on the dignity of the human person. Caritas’ work on behalf of the poor manifests God’s love for all of creation. What makes Caritas unique is its ongoing presence in communities, before, during and after crisis situations. Important, too, is that being part of civil society and incorporating the perspective of the poor, Caritas can continuously adapt its strategies to an ever changing environment. Caritas Network funds Special Operation Appeal project of ECS through its Liaison Agency Caritas Germany (DCV).
A universal pastoral charity of the Catholic Church, with over 7,000 projects in Eastern Europe and throughout the world, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) was founded on Christmas Day 1947 to help those suffering or persecuted for their Faith.
Church in Need is present, from the bleak villages of Siberia, to the underground Church in China: seminarians are trained, priests and religious supported, churches and chapels are built and restored, religious programmes are broadcast on radio and television, Bibles and religious literature are printed, refugees are helped the world over. ACN receives no government grants and relies only on the generosity of its supporters.
Church in Need as pastoral charity funds the Pastoral Department of ECS. Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) CAFOD is the official overseas development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. It has been fighting poverty in developing countries since 1962.
It believes that all
human beings have a right to dignity and respect, and that the world's
resources are a gift to be shared equally by all men and women, whatever
their race, nationality or religion. It raises funds from the Catholic community in England and Wales, the UK government and the general public. CAFOD acts based on principles of compassion, solidarity, stewardship and hope.
It also stands
alongside excluded communities, sharing resources, uniting in prayer,
defending rights and challenging the systems that keep people poor. CNEWA
A papal agency serving the churches and peoples of the Middle East, Northeast Africa, India and Eastern Europe.
CNEWA’s working team consists of 129 persons in Addis Ababa, Amman, Asmara, Beirut, Ernakulam, Jerusalem, New York, Ottawa and Rome. Planning, executing and managing complex projects, maintaining relationships with ecclesiastical and civil authorities, processing mail, entering data, coordinating sponsorship arrangements, keeping financial accounts, planning fund-raising, developing a web site, maintaining physical facilities and equipment. CNEWA supports ECS-Pastoral Department and Policy Formulation. CordaidCordaid is an international development organization based in the Netherlands. Cordaid's inspiration springs from the Catholic Social Teaching. For Cordaid, every single person counts. Values such as respect for life, solidarity and love for fellow humans provide the basis for their mission: poverty eradication, justice, and peace. Cordaid puts heart and soul into its work for the poor and those who are deprived of their rights throughout the world and for social and economic justice. Cordaid supports them and their organizations, regardless of age, sex, disposition, race, religion, or political conviction. ECS has been getting support from Cordaid for Policy Formulation. Catholic Relief Services(CRS)Catholic Relief Services was founded in 1943 by the Catholic Bishops of the United States. CRS's mission is to assist the poor and disadvantaged, leveraging the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to alleviate human suffering, promote development of all people and to foster charity and justice throughout the world. CRS aids the poor by first providing direct assistance where needed, then encouraging these people to help with their own development. Together, this fosters secure, productive, just communities that enable people to realize their potential. CRS provides humanitarian relief and development assistance in eight major programming fields. Their current portfolio of programming includes: ECS's HIV/AIDS, Emergency, Coordination and WATSAN sections/units are benefiting form CRS.
Trocaire/Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) Trocaire/CAFOD is the official overseas development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland, England and Wales. They believe in that all human beings have a right to dignity and respect, and that the world's resources are a gift to be shared equally by all men and women, whatever their race, nationality or religion. They draw their inspiration from Scripture, the Church's social teaching, and the experiences and hopes of the poor. Their mission is to promote human development and social justice in witness to Christian faith and Gospel values. They have been giving support to ECS for Coordination, Structural Support, Food Security and Rehabilitation. Pathfinder International works to improve the reproductive health of women, men, and adolescents throughout the developing world. By providing access to quality family planning and reproductive health information and services, Pathfinder works to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS, to provide care to women suffering from the complications of unsafe abortion, and to advocate for sound reproductive health policies. NFP unit of ECS gets support from Pathfinder for its Reproductive Health project. SIGNIS is a non-governmental organization that includes members from 140 countries. As the "World Catholic Association for Communication", it brings together radio, television, cinema, video, media education, Internet, and new technology professionals. SIGNIS was created in November 2001 from the merger between two organizations (Unda, for radio and television; and OCIC, for cinema and audiovisual) that were both created in 1928. Its very diversified programmes cover fields such as the promotion of films or television programmes (juries at important festivals: Cannes, Berlin, Monte Carlo, Venice, Ouagadougou…), the creation of radio, video, and television studios, production and distribution of programmes, supplying specialized equipment, training professionals… SIGNIS has consultative statutes with UNESCO, Ecosoc (United Nations in Geneva and New York), the Council of Europe. SIGNIS is officially recognized by the Vatican as a Catholic organization for communication. SIGNIS gives support to ECS-Social Communication Department. UNDP is the UN’s global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. It is on the ground in 166 countries. World leaders have pledged to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, including the overarching goal of cutting poverty in half by 2015. UNDP’s network links and coordinates global and national efforts to reach these Goals. UNDP's focus is helping countries build and share solutions to the challenges of: ECS gets support from UNDP for its HIV/AIDS unit. Caritas France (Secours Catholique)Caritas France's major areas of concern are:
Caritas France funds ECS for Policy Formulation. Caritas Germany is the Catholic relief agency that commits itself worldwide for emergency aid and reconstruction, develops social services in the countries of the world and strengthens socio-political structures. It believes in the dignity of all people without considering race, religion, sex or colour. Caritas Germany's approach is based on Social Teaching of the Catholic Church. Caritas Germany gives support to ECS for Coordination running cost, Food Security and Structural Support. In addition as Liaison Agency of Caritas Network it gives support for Special Operation Appeal (SOA). Caritas Switzerland is a multi-faceted relief organization founded in 1901 with headquarters in Lucerne. It believes in the dignity of all people without considering race, religion, sex or colour. It provides emergency humanitarian aid abroad in the wake of disasters and engages in sustainable development cooperation work. On national level it is highly committed to help refugees and asylum seekers as well as dealing with the poor in their own country. Caritas Switzerland supports ECS-Education Unit. Misereor is a catholic development agency which was founded in 1958 through the German Episcopal Council. It is the biggest catholic NGO which deals mainly with projects in the areas of
Misereor gives support for ECS Coordination Running Cost, WID/GAD, HRDD, Pastoral and Emergency. Missio is a pontifical mission society of the catholic church in Germany. Its development focus lies mainly in pastoral work, which means the education and support of priests, religious orders and lay people, the building and conservation of parochial infrastructures and the support of construction projects of religious community centres and churches. Their main partners are therefore the dioceses of the respective countries and the support addresses the local churches and their actions against poverty, submission and marginalization. Besides this clear missionary work Missio assists for example Aids/HIV projects, programmes for victims of sex tourism and child prostitution as well as human rights activities, empowerment of women, education etc. Both organizations deal with projects in Africa, Asia and Oceania. The pontifical mission focussing on South America is called Adveniat. Missio Aachen fund raises for ECS Pastoral Department and Offset section while Mission München fund raises for ECS Pastoral and Social Communication Departments. (Aid for children in emergency situations) Kindernothilfe is a Christian charitable organization. It is a member of the Diaconic services of the Evangelical church of Germany which is cooperating mainly with partners of the church all over the world. As its name says the organization deals with basically all fields of work concerning children, e.g. education, street work, health, nutrition, disability, child work etc. Kindernothilfe supports ECS-WID/GAD Department. |
