Ethiopia Participated on the Pastoral Solidarity Fund Workshop

Ethiopian delegates led by H.G. Abune Berhaneyesus, Metropolitan Archbishop of Addis Ababa, participated on the Workshop of Pastoral Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa  which was organized by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in collaboration with AMECEA, Burundi, Rwanda, CRS, Missio Aachen, and the University of Notre Dame, India from June 1-2/2010 in Kampala, Uganda.

All the AMECEA countries took part on the workshop represented by a Bishop, a Secretary General and other delegates. Ethiopia was represented by H.G. Abune Berhaneyesus, Metropolitan Archbishop of Addis Ababa and Abba Haile Gabriel Meleku, Deputy Secretary General of ECS.

Mr. Patrick Markey, the Executive Director of USCCB represented the bishops of USA. The workshop was facilitated by Mons. Robert Vitillo from USCCB. The USCCB Sub Committee is willing to grant financial support to AMECEA in implementing some of its pastoral activities.

The participants identified four common priorities of AMECEA.

• Training of pastoral agents through formation

• Solidarity in implementing the outcome of the II Special Assembly for the Synod of Bishops of Africa.

• Strategic Resource Mobilization towards self-reliance

• Effective information, Communication and technology.

• The workshop ended with pilgrimage to the shrine of Ugandan Martyrs.
