ECS Education Unit Held a Consultation Workshop

Regarding the establishment of Education Data Base System

ECS Education Unit in collaboration with the Diocesan Capacity Building Program of ECS has organized a consultation workshop on how the Catholic Church Schools could participate in the establishment of education data base system. The consultation workshop was held from June 22-23, 2010 at ECS multipurpose hall.

Abba Hagos Hayish, Secretary General of ECS, delivering the official opening remark of the consultation workshop recalled the assignment taken during the coordination meeting of the Ethiopia Catholic Church of the year 2009.He further noted that it was ECS’s role to organize various capacity building workshops to strengthen the entire activity of education service in the Ethiopian Catholic Church. He added that this workshop will discover many elements which may help the church to organize her education system more, in order to tackle internal and external challenges and enable the Church to respond adequately and effectively.

Finally, he concluded his message by forwarding his expectations and great hope for the workshop to come up with practical proposals and recommendations.

The objectives of the workshop are:-

To create awareness for setting up education data base system, to share responsibilities between ECS, DCS, and congregations running schools, to prepare the way for the next step awareness creating and sharing of duties among school directors and to convincingly enter in to the education data base system.

The workshop has focused on awareness of the relation between needs, challenges, success and opportunities. The approach is moving together, reaching schools and convincing school administrators to take their role in data provision.

To achieve all the objectives, a working methodology of data collection has been introduced and proposed questionnaire were presented.

According to the presented methodology three copies of the proposed questionnaire will be filled by schools and submit two copies to DCS.  The DCS then keep one for their file and send a copy to ECS.  Approvals will be made in each level.  The data path will be from ECS to DCS and to schools and back from schools to DCS and then to ECS.  Time frame for the data transfer was also set.

After all these have been properly organized, an education year book will be published and communicated to all stakeholders.

Secretary Generals of DCS, education desk coordinators of DCS, Superiors of School running congregations and partners residing in Addis participated in the workshop.

Various papers were presented and participants shared their experiences, challenges and best practices in groups and plenary. The workshop closed on June 23, 2010 at 4:30.
