HISTORICAL NOTES
AND BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Vicariate Apostolic of Harar was erected by the
Apostolic Constitution "Quo in Aethiopia" March 25, 1937,
with territory detached from the Vicariate Apostolic of the
Galla, which had been established May 4, 1846.
Extent:
The
Vicariate Apostolic of Harar comprises East and West Hararge
zones and Fentale and Boset weredas of East Shewa in Oromiya
Region; Harari Region; Provisional Administration of Dire
Dawa; Somali Region with exception of Afder and Liben zones;
Amibara Wereda of Affar Region.
