Religious Congregation in
Ethiopia
There are
more than 50 religious congregation working for the Ethiopian Catholic
Church. Based on
the belief that all men and women are made in the image and likeness of
God, and following Jesus' command to "love one another," the Catholic
Church in every country works for the spiritual, intellectual, social and
physical wellbeing not only of its own faithful but also of all peoples.
The commitment of the
people and institutions of the Catholic Church to serve people of all
races and beliefs is well known. In fact, the Church's worldwide presence
helping men and women of all countries and faiths in its parishes and
missions, schools and universities, hospitals and clinics, orphanages and
refugee centers, food distribution organizations and women's promotion
centers, is unparalleled.
Although the Ethiopian
Catholic Church is small, comprising about half a million faithful - less
than 1 % of the population of the country- the Church is
disproportionately active through its vast network of people and
institutions.
