Society of Jesus Society of the Helpers of Mary Society of the Helpers of Mary is a Religious institution of the Pontifical Right. Mother Anna Huberta Roggendorf, a German missionary on the 27th of March 1942 in Mumbai, India, founded it. The Charism of the society is to take Jesus love the message to those who are not reached by the ordinary channels of Church institutions. The work of the congregation consists in caring for the poor in their needs, helping them to gain a sense of dignity and confidence, fostering better conditions of family life by imparting practical home science, instructing children and adult in their illiteracy, caring for the sick where there is a need, gathering and instructing Christians community, preparing children for first holy communion and young people for marriage caring for the needy children, destitute people in their old age, and the mentally retarded in homes and institutions. The first batch of the Helpers of Mary came to Ethiopia at the invitation of Bishop Leonardus Dobbelar the Apostolic Vicar of Nekemte on the 30th of August 1999. This was the first overseas mission undertaking of the congregation and they set up their mission at Sakko, Dembi Dollo in the West Wollega Region and are engaged in Medical, Educational, Social and Pastoral activities in and around Sakko. The second community was set up at Konchi on the 29th of January 2002 which is located on the road to Addis from Nekemte about 22 km away and serves the community through medical, social pastoral and women promotion activities.
