The Sisters of St. Lucy
Filippini were called to Ethiopia by Bishop Hailemariam Kahsay of Adigrat
in 1969. They dedicate themselves especially to the education of youth
which is the Charism of the Institute.
The community had its origins
in Montefiascone, Viterbo, Italy in 1692 and spread itself in Europe,
North and South America, Asia and Africa.
In East Africa the sisters are
engaged not only in formal education in elementary schools but also in
various apostolic activities to meet the many needs of the people.
Currently the communities are
all involved in the following pastoral activities: Catechetical work,
Youth ministry, Literacy programmes, Parish activities, House of prayer
and Home visiting.
