Sisters of Charity of St. Jeanne-Antide Thouret Sisters of Charity of St. Jeanne-Antide Thouret OUR ORIGINSThe Congregation of Sisters of Charity has been founded by St. Jeanne-Antide THOURET, on the 11th of April 1799 in Besancon- France, according to the spirituality of St. Vincent de Paul. Answering to the call of God and the need of the time, St. Jeanne-Antide opened the first free school in a rented room Rue Des Martekits; and next to it, she established a pharmacy and a "Soup Kitchen" or "a Boiler" to help the sick and the poor. She helped the children, the youth and the adults materially and spiritually, proclaiming the Gospel to them. In 1810, the institute extended to Savoy and Naples (at the demand of King Murat and Madame Leatitia - brothr and mother of Napoleon Bonaparte).
To love Jesus Christ, to love and serve the poor who are His
members, materially as well as spiritually. OUR PRESENCE IN THE WORLD
Europe:
France, Italy, Switzerland, England, Romania, Albania,
Moldavia.
