Missionary Community of Saint Paul the Apostle

The Missionary Community of St. Paul the Apostle and Mary, Mother of the Church-under the protection of St. Joseph, patron of the Universal Church is a public association of Christian faithful of the Catholic Church, made up of priests and lay people, men and women, from different parts of the world.

The charisma is to live the spirituality or Christ the Good shepherd, based in daily prayer and working in unity with the local Bishops.

The aim of the MCSPA is to spread the missionary spirit through small initiatives, getting involved with the most neglected, taking care of basic development projects in first evangelization areas and promoting integral education among the people. The development initiatives are focused on health, nutrition and development of water, agricultural and livestock resources.

The MCSPA is present in Kenya, Ethiopia, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, U.S.A. Germany, and Dominican Republic.

In 1992 Monsignor Fikre Mariam Gemetchu, former Bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte asked the MCSPA to come to Ethiopia. In 1993 members of the Community set up in Nekemte in order to take charge of a Health Project in Angar Guten valley, located 70 kilometres north from Nekemte. Until December 2007, the MCSPA was present in Anger Guten Valley in the following projects:

Health:
Anger Clinic, Andode Health Post and Fite Bako Health Post.

Education:
Infant Jesus Kindergarten in Guten, Saint Joseph Kindergarten in Gida and Saint Joseph Mother and Child Center in Andode.

Water Resource Development:
Building of 5 rock dams for strong rainy water, 23 natural spring protections, 2 drilled wells and 43 hand wells.

Agriculture:
Fruit trees plantation, crops production and vegetable garden in the different project sites. Education program about food production improvement and distribution of fruit trees, crops and vegetable seeds.

Science the year 2002, the MCSPA is in Mizan Teferi, in the Apostolic Prefecture of Jimma Bonga, after receiving the invitation of Fr. Theo Van Ruyven CM.

The members of MCSPA in Mizan Teferi are in charge of the following projects:
- Education: Saint Joseph of the Mountain Mother and Child Center for 104 children from 4 to 6 years old in Mizan Teferi.
- Agriculture: Plantation of fruit trees, vegetable gardens and crops on the plot of the mother and Child Center. Educational program for women about the improvement of food production and preparation, distribution of seeds and fruit trees to the assistants.
- Water Resource Development through the perforation of hand wells.

The MCSPA is present in the Archdiocese of Addis Ababa since the year 2003, under the invitation of Monsignor Brhaneyesus D. Souraphiel, CM.

On May 25th, 2008 with the presence of Mgr. Berhaneyesus D. Souraphiel St. Joseph Mother and Child Center was inaugrated in Muketuri, located 78 kilometers far from Addis Ababa. The following programs have been implemented:

- Education: St. Joseph Mother and Child Center in Muketuri. 242 children are assisting from Monday to Friday for preschooler education and daily breakfast and lunch.

- Agriculture: Plantation of fruit trees, crops and vegetable gardens in the plot of Mother and Child Center.

- Improvement activities of water resources, through the drilling of a well and the perforation of a hand well. The water will be used for the agricultural activities and and for the benefit of the neighbors of the center living in Muketuri.

- Women Promotion activities practical and theoretical education sessions about agriculture, improvement of the nutrition and care of the children.
