Little Sisters of Jesus

The international congregation of the Little Sisters of Jesus was founded in 1939 in the Sahara by Little Sister Magdeleine, in the steps of Brother Charles de Foucauld.

Today, we are about 1400 Little Sisters from 60 countries, living in small groups throughout the world.  They are called to live a life of prayer and friendship, among the people, especially the poor, sharing as much as possible their way of life.

In Addis Ababa, the Little Sisters had been running the Catholic Cathedral Clinic until 2000.  The clinic had to close down because of the new policy of the government.  We would like to continue to be a presence of prayer and friendship among the people.  Now our fraternity of Addis Ababa is more involved in formation.

December 1995:  The first two Ethiopian Little Sisters pronounced their final vows in Bonga parish church.

February 1996:  Opening of Fraternity in Wushwush, Prefecture of Jimma- Bonga.  The Little Sisters are working with the youth of the parish and with the women for improvement of their condition of life (gardening, knitting, sewing. cooking).
