Franciscan Sisters of Divine Providence
Addresses
Members of the Congregation
Franciscan Sisters of Divine Providence, Baldegg
The congregation of the Sisters
of Baldegg Switzerland, was founded in 1830 by Chaplain JOSEPH LEONZ BLUM
from Hochdorf together with seven sisters of the same family - the
Hartmann family from Hohenrain at the castle of BALDEGG. Mgr. Joseph
Anton Salzmann, Bishop of Basel, approved it as a diocesan congregation on
the 5th October 1844. Since March 24th, 1964 the Sisters of Divine
Providence of Baldegg (third order of St. Francis of Assisi) are a
congregation of pontifical right.
1985: One Sister came to ECS
Ethiopia to help with the reporting on
famine relief.
1994: Three Sisters took on
the clinic in Maganasse (Gurage) formerly run
by the Comboni Sisters.
They also train women to be leaders in the villages.
