The Congregation of Sisters of
the Divine Providence was founded by Monsignor Francesco Torta in 1921 in
Piacenza, Italy.
The Sisters settled at Mendida, Northern Shewa Region, Ethiopia, in
December 1971. They have since opened houses in Addis Ababa City,
Hosanna, Debre Berhan and Shalala (Hosanna) and Gassa Chare (Dauro Konta).
They are engaged in Kindergartens, Clinics, Social work, Womens'
promotion, Formation. In 1987 they opened a novitiate in Mendida.
