Congregation of Martha and Mary, HCMM

The Congregation of Martha and Mary was founded at Jalapa, Guatemala, on 6^th January 1979 by the late Bishop Miguel Angel Garcia Arauz, (first Bishop of the Diocese of Jalapa) and Mother Angela Eugenia Silva Sanchez, Colombian and at present the Superior General.

Enlightened by the Holy Spirit and necessitated by the situation in that Diocese, they founded this Religious Community with the aim of supporting Evangelization, in accordance with the mandate of Jesus Christ, that is, to preach or carry his Gospel to the most needy.  In imitation of our Patron Saints Martha and Mary, by generous and disinterested service to our brothers and sisters and by great lover for our Divine Master, through his example of prayer and contemplation; uniting together the apostolic zeal, activity, service and intimate relations with Jesus, giving rise to the motto of each member of the Congregation:  LOVE, SACRIFICIAL LOVER AND SACRIFICE.

At present the Congregation of Martha and Mary has 750 members in Ethiopia, Spain, Italy, Argentina, Venezuela, Honduras and Guatemala.
